off topic...when idiots are in the news

I was going to add my lessons recently learned but this just irritated me...

I’m flipping through channels on my metal break from my book moments, I spot bits about Levi Johnson.  (Bristol Palin’s Baby Daddy)  In one, he’s reported to be posing nude for Playgirl.  Another, he’s on a commercial for Pistachios.  He has a body guard blocking groupies from getting at him (ew, who would?)  and the line is…. ‘This time Levi does it with protection.”  Then Levi eats a pistachio. Then "get crackin'" voice over.

Can that get anymore crass?  I don’t care what you feel about politics, that’s just plan rude.  And what does it have to do with pistachio nuts?  Ya know, that says one thing, he’s riding the fame carpet, not on talent, but on (misusing) his man junk.

Worse is someone paid him for that.  Johnson can do what he wants to make a living, but at the expense of another, crosses the line.  I’m sure people will disagree, and you’re welcome to, but this shows me we are a society that has lost its manners.

Luckily, I've only seen this late at night.

One more irritant... I am so sick of reality TV I could scream.

I can’t tell you how much I HATE this stuff.  Its like waiting to see who will draw first blood.  Hollywood writers can’t come up with a fresh idea?  (I know a few hundred in OCC RWA who could)  Reality is cheaper, I get that, no Screen Actors Guild to contend with, no costumes, writers, and minimal sets, but because of that, its not worth my time.  My husband likes watching Survivor.  I have no idea why. To him, they’re all idiots ignoring the obvious because he can survive in the wild with nothing.  I surf over these shows and think, why would you put yourself through that, behave that way, on national television?  Oh yeah, the million dollars.  Sorry, not enough money in my book.

I like my privacy, and I have manners and moral standards.

Since I've gone off topic...join the rant.

Tell me, what's pushed your button lately?

The Levi Johnston thing is in such poor taste that it's enough to make me stop eating pistachios. Seriously. Next they'll have one with Michael Vick doing it doggy style.

I have a sentimental attachment to Survivor, because I can still imagine myself doing it. Which is pretty funny, considering I think I'm roughing it when I run out of Half & Half and have to put milk in my coffee. Bleh!

I sort of like Dancing with the Stars, largely because I am a (mostly) failed ballroom dancer, and I know how hard it is. But the fact that Michael Irvin is still in the running proves that it's more of a popularity contest than a true test of skill.

The rest hold no interest, except for the absolute worst of the worst -- some of the ones on VH1 and MTV. These are like train wrecks--they disgust me but I can't look away. "Rock of Love" (1, 2 & 3) has to be the most horrifying of them all. I wouldn't f**k Brett Michael with someone else's vagina, but I find myself fascinate by these bimbos with serious self-esteem issues competing for their chance to do so. Afterward, I feel like I need to be disinfected.

I am addicted to TRU tv, and (guilty secret) anything to do with the Kardashians - Khloe and Kourtney more so than Kim...I don't know why, but I find them mindlessly fascinating :) Toni, I agree with you about Brett 100%

Okay Traci. I like Tru TV too. But the Kardashians? Kim is the only one with a talent and that's measurable. What annoys me is that they are popular for doing NOTHING.
Toni... on Levi... As a mom, I'd be ashamed my son stooped to that level.
another on in the news and with NO reason... Spencer Pratt. I caught channel-surfing glimpse of him masticating food with his mouth open in a Beverly Hills restaurant. To the point that bits were falling out! So disgusting! The producers of this crap should be drawn and quartered!

As rants go, that one was a beaut, Amy!

I LOATHE reality TV. It celebrates the worst of us and reaches for the lowest common denominator.

I'm a firm believer that people will rise or fall depending on your expectations of them. According to TV, there are ZERO expectations.

As for Levi Johnson. The boy needs to be neutered. No way that gene pool should be dipped in again.

I see Levi Johnson and I think... his mother must be SO proud...snicker snicker.
Not!
